| Slightly hair raising! |
We arrived in Ayutthaya late evening, almost 10pm. One thing we've learned on this trip is that there is always transport waiting when your plane, boat or train arrives, however late in the day. This time it was a large tuk-tuk with songthaew style seats in the back. He loaded us and our luggage into the back and drove us to our guesthouse for 100 baht. We clutched the bars above our heads with an edge of nervousness and excitement. As it turned out, we had journeys to come that were far more 'exciting' — almost dangerous!
'Tamarind Guesthouse' turned out to be delightful, a traditional wooden Thai house, very quirky, rooms painted bright colours, public seated areas on different levels, hand painted wooden signs and labels.

| Breakfast on the 'balcony' |
A large fridge in the lobby outside our room had glass bottles of water wooden labels — '2' for our room, which were were replaced daily. Everywhere we've been sells bottled water very cheaply, and most hotels, guesthouses, hostels, and even wats (temples) have free bottles.
We had packed some ground coffee and a tea strainer, which meant if a kettle was provided we could make a real morning coffee. Tamarind had large flasks of hot water and we found a cute little teapot that we used for our coffee. Each morning they provided small extra-sweet bananas, Thai buns filled with savoury or sultanas, and a jar of cookies was always on the counter next to the cups. It had been advertised as 'no breakfast', but these treats were good enough.
Tamarind was probably our favourite hotel in the whole month. Photos here:

Wow! The extra photos show why Tamarind was your favourite hotel. (No, not just because of the gin). :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat to be able to click on individual photos for close ups, thank you.

I perhaps should have said that the gin wasn't provided in the room! When we left Peter's house he kindly insisted I took what was left of the gin we'd bought in Tesco Lotus (and I didn't object), along with several cans of tonic and some fresh limes :-)
